Anterior Hip Pain

August 4, 2021

Anterior hip pain is pain that is located in the front of the hip. It is a common area of discomfort that is seen in the fitness and sports communities. The anterior musculature of the hip can often become irritated and painful in activities ranging from running to squatting in the weight room. Often times it is paired up with inadequate mobility and strength of the low back and hips. Common muscles in this area that can be problematic are the iliopsoas (deep hip flexor muscle) and quadriceps (thigh muscle). With muscle/tendon pain, tightness often develops. This tension can add to the discomfort and needs to be addressed. Try this hip flexor/quadriceps stretching progression to address any anterior hip pain you have!
