Hip Flexor Stretches: Progressions for Tight Hips

November 20, 2020

Tight Hips? Try these hip flexor stretches to help.

So, what causes tight hip flexors?

For the majority of us this is our primary sitting muscle. When we sit, and when we sit for long periods of time, our body forms a casting system around what we do most. This encourages our hip flexor muscles to become nice and tight through out the day.

What are the benefits of hip flexor stretches?

The hip flexors are a combination of one and two joint muscles that attach above the hip and below the knee. This means that if they get too tight, this could increase the likelihood of low back pain, hip pain or patellar femoral pain syndrome (aka knee pain).

How often should we stretch our hip flexors?

This is a muscle that would benefit from daily stretching with varying sets of holds and reps depending if we are utilizing the stretches as a warm up, cool down or muscle correcting exercise.
